Vivian Versus the Apocalypse – Katie Coyle
I absolutely loved this book; it was one of those easy-to-read books where you are really invested in both the characters and story. This book was like a mixture of a lot of my favourite TV shows all in one. It combined The Path, The Following, Fear of the Walking Dead (without the zombies) with a Thelma and Louise–type quality, all wrapped up in a coming-of-age story. I mean, what’s not to love?
I felt that some things did happen too fast, some things were not explained fully and some things just seemed too easy, but all-in-all I really loved the ride and read it very quickly. It did make you think about what we believe, what society believes and how willing people are to follow the next thing and even though it was written in 2012, there is a stark resemblance to modern America that’s a little eerie. If you love a good coming-of-age story mixed with some peril and a tiny bit of love, then this book might just be the one for you.
a 4/5 for me.
